FAQs
What materials is Clothing Canopy constructed from?
Clothing Canopy is compactible, constructed from lightweight, corrosion-resistant and environmentally friendly aluminum, ensuring ease of set up, disassembly and portability. It is equipped with 10 adjustable drawstrings and clothing clips for enhanced functionality.
How do I use Clothing Canopy?
1. Ensure the piece of clothing is thoroughly wet. For optimal results, remove the clothing from the washer after the washing cycle.
2. Assemble the frame. The feet are optional; if you choose to add them, ensure the screws and winged nuts are securely tightened. If the frame shows any instability, use a screwdriver to tighten the bottom bolt.
3. Lay the frame on a flat surface and position your clothing inside the frame.
4. Begin fastening the clothing clips, starting with the four corner clips, followed by the two middle clips, and finally, the clips on the sides of Clothing Canopy.
5. Tighten the drawstrings until the clothing is taut.
6. Stand the frame up in a well-ventilated area. Adjust the drawstrings as needed and leave the clothing to dry.
7. Unclip the piece of clothing and shake it out.
What are some tips and tricks I should know?
- Clothing Canopy is highly versatile and fully adjustable. The drawstrings, drawstring locks, and clothing clips are strategically positioned in areas we have tested for optimal functionality. However, feel free to reposition these components to the points that best suit your piece of clothing; the aluminum frame features perforated holes throughout, providing multiple adjustment points for a customized fit.
- For best results, tighten the drawstrings until most wrinkles are removed from the piece of clothing. The level of stretching can be adjusted to your preference.
- Clothing Canopy is most effective on materials that are prone to shrinking during the washing and drying process. This includes natural fibers such as cotton, linen, wool, silk, and denim, as well as synthetic fibers like polyester, rayon, Tencel, and Lenzing.
Disclaimer: Clothing Canopy is not designed to work with free-standing pockets or ruffles unless they are individually secured with their own drawstrings and clothing clips.
What motivated the creation of clothing canopy?
In 2020, the founder of Clothing Canopy, Julia Hergenrother, then a junior in college, encountered a frustrating issue with her favorite dresses. After washing and drying them, she noticed they would shrink, a problem particularly concerning given her height of 5'8". Mini dresses, which already felt short when she purchased them, became even more uncomfortably small after shrinking. Unable to afford losing any more length, Julia spent hours experimenting with various techniques to restore her dresses to their original size. She turned to online solutions, such as soaking the dresses in a conditioner and water mixture, then employing a combination of physical stretching, gravity, and weights to gradually elongate the fabric. But this made her realize there was a larger gap in the market: a product that could safely de-wrinkle clothes and maintain their length over time.
This problem became the inspiration. Julia sought to create a solution for not just restoring but also preserving the fit and appearance of clothing—especially for people like her, who faced a constant battle with garment shrinkage. She envisioned a product that would make the process easier, quicker, and more reliable.
Through research and innovation, Julia eventually developed a product that would solve this problem for herself and others, allowing people to maintain the size and fit of their clothes after washing.
